Behind The Screen

For those of you who don't know me, I am Emilie Christian. I graduated in May 2014 from Texas Christian University with a B.S. in Strategic Communications, minor in Sociology. The B.S. stands for Bachelor of Science, not bullshit. Common mistake.

I currently serve as Constituent Services for San Antonio District 10 City Councilman Mike Gallagher. My duties range from filing requests for pothole repairs to managing neighborhood associations, from advocating for our residents within local government departments such as Transportation and Capital Improvements, Code Enforcement, and Development Services to giving back to our community through the North East Corridor revitalization project. I work for and with Councilman Gallagher, focusing on the vitality of our neighborhoods, public safety, and making this district the best in the city.

My academic and professional work have, essentially, branded me on its own. I am passionately cause-driven, despite how generational and flighty that may sound. I want to not just give a voice, but to give the right voice to causes so that their missions are being heard. The power and ability to translate a message from ear to action is what I live for. That being said, I am a divergent thinker. I look at minuscule details and the big picture at all moments. I strive to position companies in the strongest light without compromising any core values or missions. The world we live in is constantly changing and I must keep up. Lastly, this may come as a big shocker... but probably not. I am irrevocably in love with words. "lexophile" as the third component of my personal brand is more than just a classification. It is the embodiment of my work and my personality. I believe in the primal power of words. I believe that creative, strong, impressionable diction is necessary for all aspects of my careers, life, and purpose in this world. The inability to express thoughts, ideas, emotions, and facts in a way that allures the ear can be extremely detrimental to any cause.

You, me, creatives, accountants, burger flippers, and diplomats alike all in the same business: contributing to the cause of making the universe a better place to live. Public Relations is not all Olivia Pope ass-kicking-and-taking-names, although I wish it was. PR is simply about manifesting the right voice. My personal brand is my voice, my essence, my mission.

2016 is "my year of vulnerability" and this blog will serve as a look into that journey as I learn to better connect with myself and others out of authenticity, bring more gratitude and compassion into our world, and inspire the courage to tell my story without fear of rejection.
